"A logical approach to understanding"
Access Consultants

We are a team of highly qualified and project experienced consultants who provide advice and solutions for the built environment and public spaces.

Every situation is different and our Access Consultants work with the Asset Manager or Building Owner to achieve an acceptable level of equitable and dignified access for people with disability in line with the Disability Discrimination Act(DDA)1992.

Our Consultants can accurately advise of the Building and Land Owner’s obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act and Access to Premises Standards and can also assist with risk management.

Our relationship with advocacy groups and industry peers deepen our understanding of the many challenges faced by people with various disabilities.

We strive to achieve the best possible outcome for all.

Desktop Design Reviews

Engage one of our qualified & nationally accredited Access Consultants to review your design to ensure access needs for people with disability are identified and addressed as early as possible in the design phase.

Building Access Audits

Determining the status of an existing building is the first step in identifying access barriers for building occupants with disability.

We fully understand that buildings age with time and once our experienced Consultants understand the needs of the occupants we can provide a logical approach, practical advice and prioritised options to assist with improving the building and reduce the risk for the Owner.

We can audit your asset to an agreed benchmark, tailored to your budget.

Once we have issued an Access Report with prioritised recommendations and solutions, your options include either carrying out upgrade works to improve the building or, where budgetary constraints exist, initiating a Disability Action Plan to capture the barriers identified and provide a timeline & strategy for improvements in the future.

Whilst the ideal outcome is that every building is fully compliant with our evolving legislation, the reality is that many existing buildings will never fully comply for every person with disability.

We offer 3 building auditing formats:

Report Type
Benchmark
1. Basic Needs
High priority items typical to all existing buildings.
2. Minimum Needs
Minimum requirements (NCC BCA & AS1428.1)
3. Enhanced Needs
Enhanced requirements (NCC BCA, AS1428 1&2)

We recommend speaking to us directly to understand which is most suited to you and your asset portfolio.

Heritage Building Audits incorporate practical and solution based advice to ensure a balance between access & heritage legislation is met to minimise the impact to heritage building fabric.

DISABILITY ACTION PLAN (DAP)

To manage risk for your asset, we develop Disability Action Plans for existing buildings. A Disability Action Plan outlines a strategy for how and when the organisation may proactively improve their premises over time.

The plan is voluntary and is not a legislated process requiring retrospective upgrade according to any legislation.

Disability Action Plans are recommended by the Human Rights Commission.

DISABILITY ACCESS & INCLUSION PLAN IMPLEMENTATION

Implementing a DAIP into the built environment can be confusing, where do you start with limited budgets, and so many barriers. If you need a logical approach, practical advice and prioritised options to form a plan for implementation then we can help.

We can discuss what you need and review your scope so you can be sure to get what you need for the next stage.

So often, the cheapest audits cost more than they save in the longer term. Refining your scope of work, prioritising your assets and getting a result that fits in your CAPEX budgeting will save time and money.

As built environment specialists, we provide solutions to minimize & eliminate barriers & can advise of the best pathway specific to the needs of your organisation & building occupants.

And by offering this service at an hourly rate you can use us as much as you need, no obligation.
